I sincerely believe that much of my life’s experience, including world travel, living on two legendary islands (Hawaii and Jamaica) and early exposure to art, have all been contributors to my successful painting career.
The year 2002 was a turning point and the beginning of my second chance at life. I retired and with my fiancee, Lois Greene, traveled to New Zealand to compete and represent the United States in the World Masters Swimming Championships in which I placed third. En route home I fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit several South Seas islands, including Rarotonga. It was there that we decided to get married on the beach. Our next stop was Tahiti… the last home of 19th century French post-impressionist artist, Paul Gauguin, whose adventuresome life had always fascinated me.
This visit reawakened my interest in art which began at the knee of my grandmother as I watched her create many beautiful paintings. Upon returning home to Englewood, Florida, I discovered that Gauguin’s son, Emile, was buried nearby. This started a wonderful relationship with several of the artist’s great grandchildren who live in Denmark and a visit to Copenhagen to research with them the unknown life story of their grandfather, Emile. Fearing intimidation of artistic rules of perspective, balance, color, etc., I opted to take brush in hand, put paint to canvas and invent myself – sans lessons. I have painted almost two hundred (most have been sold and not shown on this website) original and very colorful canvasses of mostly tropical scenes influenced by my years of living and traveling to tropical places. My growing reputation as a prominent artist is established in the “press” page of this website. I am always available for commission work or the embellishment of existing paintings in order to tie-in colors with your decor.
